Bien Gifts a Die-Hard Fan a Lifetime Opportunity

Collins Omondi, a famous Kenyan artist, known for his pencil potraits, landed a lifetime offer with Bien Baraza of SautiSol. Collins has done many celebrities but the SautiSol singer offered something different. What started as an act of generosity, where Bien invited Collins to his home, Omondi used the chance to gift the international singer a painting of him he had created.

Bien was taken aback by the suprise and bestowed Omondi a complimentary pass to all his future shows. This unique moment showcased a strong connection between different genres of creativity, forging a connection between art and music.

Taking Art Seriously

Collins wasn’t always a full-time artist. He is a Bachelors of Commerce graduate from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT). In 2013, he delved deep into his craft and passion since he couldn’t secure a job opportunity. Unbeknownst to him, this is the very door that led him to his career success as an artist.

“I have been drawing since I was a kid but I had never taken it seriously. So when I failed to secure a job after graduation, I thought I could explore my talent”

Collins Viral Moments

Collins gained popularity on TikTok and Facebook where he astonishes audiences with depth and detail of his pencil potraits. Omondi went viral when he was asked to deliver President Uhuru Kenyatta’s potrait, in full military gear, in State House. Steve Harvey, the American celebrated talk host and comedian, also cosigned his work. Steve wanted Omondi to deliver the art to him directly to him when he came to Africa, but due to COVID, the meeting never happened. He however was in touch with the celebrity’s team.

The famous Raila potrait that did rounds on social media upon his death, was also a work of his imagination. It was printed on merchandise, sold as potraits, posted and reposted on social media, making it the most viral image that captured the farewell period of the former Prime Minister. Out of the hype, he landed 13 contracts according to his social media and urged fellow artists to take their crafts seriously. His art is an extraordinary gift and uses it to highlight the art scene in Kenya and engaging with fans and fellow artists.
