Rapper King Kaka to Drop a New Album, “The Year of the Pen”

Kenyan rapper and serial entrepreneur King Kaka is set to drop his 9th studio album this month. The album titled “The Year of the Pen”, will officially drop on 27th March 2026 at The Coliseum, Nairobi, Kenya. According to him, this album is an ode to his spoken word days which marked the early stages of his career.

To mark this major career highlight, the hiphop storyteller is doing a 30-day vlog behind-the-scenes. His audience gets to be introduced his collaborators, creative management of the event and some live rehersals of the upcoming performances. Some of the collaborators include Mombasa-based new age rapper Emkay64 and Scar Mkadinali, whom they did a joint album, “Fluent Trauma”.

The tickets go as high as Kshs 40K for VVIP and the cheapest go for Kshs 2500 for early birds. The experience is a two and a half hours show backed by a live band and the Upper Hill High School choir, Red Fourth Chorus. Doors will open at 7.30PM and the dress code is elegant and opulence.

Kaka in a press release, had to postpone the listening party date following the flash floods that rocked Nairobi CBD. It had been set for March 7th but has now been rescheduled to Sunday, 15th March.

FUN FACT: Gweth Lisiwanza, his eldest daughter, is the creative art director of the album. The 11-year old, and student, is the artist behind the album artwork, which his father describes as genius.

“I landed the role of being his creative director after I was asked to come up with the idea for the album cover. He gave me the prompt, ‘The Year of the Pen’. I did a sketch then sent it to him for him to paint,” she explained in one of the vlogs.
